Purpose: To verify the influence of resistance exercises on Intraocular Pressure (IOP). Specifically aimed study association between variations of IOP on different condition, such as Resistance Training (RT) method, body position and kind of respiration. Method: The analytical study verified the hypothesis: “there is association between resistance exercise and IOP”. The convenience group was constituted to 19 volunteers (13 male and 6 female, 21.8 + 3.28 years old) athletes and practices of boxer, undergone to different resistance exercise sessions (adaptation, local muscular endurance, hypertrophy and strength methods), performed three times week, according to linear periodization, during five weeks. IOP was by Perkins tonometer was measured before, during and after resistance exercise session. All data were showed by descriptive tests. The statistical analyzes were performed by Shapiro-Wilk Test and Anova and repeated measures Anova. Results: Was verified that, independently of RT method used, there was decrease of IOP during resistance exercise session. However, that variations were specifically according to method of RT applied, or better, the local muscular endurance showed significantly decreases of IOP when compared with others, and hypertrophy session the IOP return to initial scores before of end of exercises session. Specifically, on strength training, same individuals performed apnea during exercises, there was decrease of IOP. Conclusions: There is differentiated association of IOP according to method applied on resistance training session. |
