Objectives. The purpose of this research work was to evaluate and to determine the nutritional status and the food ingestion of young men who practice fi tness activities.
Methods. The sample was made up of 113 young men who performed dumbbell training. Body Mass Index (BMI) was evaluated and nutritional status was determined through a survey on food consumption frequency.
Results. Of those surveyed, 78.76% had malnutrition due to excess, overweight being the prevalent form. The food groups consumed most were: meat and eggs, cereals and derivatives and dairy products. The majority of the individuals ate 4 main meals and 2 snacks. Energy and nutrient adjustments were excessive in relationship to the mean nutritional needs of the group studied. Their diet was low in carbohydrates, high in proteins, normal in fats and poor in variety.
Conclusions. There is a high frequency of nutrient errors and imbalances in the young men who practice fitness activities that may affect their nutritional state and sport’s yield. |
