> Resumo  > Abstract
The level of accessibility offered to wheelchair users  in public and private schools is scarce,  although under specific legislation it is also rare its compliance, which shows a lack of perspective of a unattended public. The purpose of this study was to verify the level of accessibility of wheelchair users offered by schools in the city of Rio de Janeiro, taking as a parameter the scale accessibility Vidor (2005). The search was performed from visits to 20 (twenty) public and private schools in two neighbourhoods Western City of Rio de Janeiro. Collection was made through a questionnaire, adopting as route the adaptation of the instrument “Accessibility note ten” Vidor (2005), which assigns the concepts Diamond, Gold, Silver and Bronze depending on the level of accessibility in buildings. It was verified that the level of accessibility of schools visited is classified is Bronze – considered low. Based on this data, can be concluded that the schools visited do not see these public potential clients, once they are not prepared to receive and serve them in their needs. In addition, it can be observed that there is no policy to promote accessibility, both in its construction and the staging of attendant employees, causing when occurs the situation of a wheelchair user frequent the school, his access be precarious and improvised, although agents show generous and willingness to do so.  The impact of theories of social inclusion of Physical Education School for people with special needs can be compromised due to restrictions or impediments to access these individuals to school and classes.
