Psychomotricity: history, development, concepts and definitions - Abstract

This article sought to investigate psychomotricity’s history and development, the speech of authors and institutions of the area about psychomotricity’s concept and definition. Also were investigated areas of intervention of psychomotricity and, respectively, of psychomotricians, in which were verified at least three áreas of atuation: education, reeducation and psychomotor therapy. We observed that for being psychomotricity a profession no regulated and respective professionals act in diversificated areas, there is possibility of conflicts with other professions in the extent of theirs respective areas of professional intervention as Physical Education, Physiotherapy, Phonology, Medicine and possibly others specifically in the areas of Health and Education.
