> Resumo  > Abstract
Although they are not included in the economic debate about work/leisure relationships, family home chores have had an important role in the configuration of this reality. This study aimed at verify the role of home chores in the leisure configuration of youths that participated in the Map of Leisure of Young People in Canoas/RS. Our specific objectives were to identify the role of the following variables: gender, race, dwelling place, age, and number of brothers and sisters. Information obtained allowed the creation of a database, which was submitted to frequency analysis using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows 11. To verify possible associations between nominal variables, the chi-square test was used for contingency analysis, and the significance level was 5% (p<0.05). In order to know the cells that indicated a dependence relationship between variables (attributes), the adjusted residues were analyzed in a standardized way. Data revealed the impossibility of characterizing two groups with restrict identities, one composed of individuals that had home chores, and the other composed of those that did not had home chores. On the other hand, the group with the largest number of home chores was immersed in social vulnerabilities; among them, gender, race, dwelling place, age, and number of siblings have been highlighted.
